About every five seasons or so, we like to check in with the eldest Marsalis sibling – just to see what he’s up to. The leader of one of the longest-running quartet’s in jazz today – and truly one of the planet’s best saxophonists for sure – we couldn’t be happier than to have Branford Marsalis participate in our 25th Anniversary Season.
He’s joined by his true partner in crime, pianist Joey Calderazzo, along with accomplished bassist Eric Revis and the fantastic drummer Justin Faulkner, who joined the party a decade ago as an 18-year-old Berklee College of Music enrollee.
The group’s latest release, The Secret Between The Shadow And The Soul (Okeh), has not unsurprisingly received an abundance of, if not unanimous set of accolades. Here’s one that pretty much sums up Marsalis continues to strive for: "Branford Marsalis’ quartet has been a model of daring, unapologetic artistry for the past three decades.” - Jazziz.
At this point, the piano-bass-drums rhythm section truly operates, at this point, as a unit – as does the quartet, with the leader allowing, rightfully so, each of his bandmates plenty of space to shine both individually and collectively. Marsalis may be the front man, but those who have seem the group perform previously as well as those who are seeing the group perform for the first time – will undoubtedly recognize everyone contributes to every composition, doing so with a serious skillset second to none.
The Marsalis Quartet has not lost its sense of humor – nor its immense ability to play with a great sense of freedom and terrific sensibility. We are pleased to be enveloped by and present yet again “An Evening with Branford Marsalis.”

Branford Marsalis Quartet

Branford Marsalis: Saxophone
Joey Calderazzo: Piano
Eric Revis: Bass
Justin Falkner: Drums

“Although the form is quite free, each instrumental voice is clearly defined and purposeful. Marsalis and Calderazzo play together with exceptional delicacy and the technique all round is quite stunning.”

- The Guardian

“This musicianship is so striking in part because it's filtered through the Quartet's extended tenure together, the years of which have honed both their individual and collective instincts. “
