Terell Stafford All-Star Quintet
Every season we look to include a Jazz Series favorite – or two. TRUMPETER TERELL STAFFORD certainly qualifies. His first Columbia appearance took place three decades ago as a 20-something member of Bobby Watson’s Horizon. Today, Stafford, atop his field, has released 10 recordings as a bandleader and appeared on dozens more titles; oh, he also directs Temple University’s jazz and classical programs. When not touring, he’s a Monday night Vanguard Jazz Orchestra regular and, of late, the trumpeter has been working with iconic saxophonist Charles McPherson’s quintet. To no one’s surprise – certainly not ours – “T-Staff” put together an all-star aggregate for the Jazz Series. SAXOPHONIST TIM WARFIELD joins him on the front line while PIANIST BRUCE BARTH – certainly a favorite – leads a rhythm section that includes BASSIST PHILIP NORRIS and DRUMMER JOHNATHAN BLAKE. |
