How happy are we to snag a date with René Marie her as part of the 2017/2018 season? Very. A Jazz Series favorite – and truly one of the most individualistic and dynamic vocalists globe-trotting for the last two decades, Marie, after raising a family and life in the corporate world, turned her some-time profession and full-time passion into one a dynamic and scintillating career.
Her highly personalized and oft-autobiographical approach augments her original intonation, tone and dry sense of humor. Part torch singer and traditionalist, part modernist and an adventurist, Marie’s original compositions general hold center court over interpreting standards and her colleagues’ contributions, but that’s not to say she doesn’t have the full range of the vocal lexicon at her disposal.
From her official bio: Perhaps more than most artists, René understands music’s capacity to heal and inspire. Not only has she herself been the beneficiary of it, but she has made every effort along the way to extend those same benefits to others. “I have never forgotten the early lessons learned about the power of music… I try to imbue that feeling of emotion into every song I write and every song I sing – every time.”

"I found myself being drawn to tunes where, as the woman singer, she was taking her sensuality and sexuality and power into her own hands."

- Rene Marie

"Marie has taken on the challenge to be as "fiery sensual and clever" as Eartha  Kitt, and has risen to that challenge. But it should also be emphasized how innately musical Marie is, whether singing 'in' the notes, or deliberately 'out'. There is enough variety in phrasing to call this album a masterclass."
