Matt Wilson, his versatility, dedication, and sense of humor, is in high demand for his unique drumming style. He was voted the Downbeat Critic's Poll #1 Rising Star Drummer for five consecutive years. Wilson recently performed with Herbie Hancock, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Dianne Reeves, Chris Botti, Randy Brecker, Antonio Hart, and James Genus for a White House State Dinner concert hosted by President Obama. Wilson works with band leaders Joe Lovano, John Scofield, Charlie Haden, Lee Konitz, Bob Stewart, Denny Seitlin, Ron Miles, Marty Ehrlich, Ted Nash, Jane Ira Bloom, and Dena DeRose. Wilson also leads the Matt Wilson Quartet, Arts and Crafts, Christmas Tree-O and now, his latest, "Honey And Salt," music inspired by the poetry of Carl Sandburg.

This concert, part of "Jazz Appreciation Month," will be particularly enjoyable as we icollaborate with the Unbound Book Festival. Wilson's newest group and project - a music & spoken word effort - not only offers the audience to hear his special musical sensibilties but also have the pleasure of hearing a selection visiting authors and others join the ensemble and hear Sandburg's poetry read and woven into the performance's fabric. What a way to close the 2017/201 "We Always Swing"® Jazz Series!
