***NEW LOCATION FOR "Keep on, Keepin' on" screening***
The screening of the film as well as Q&A with Justin will be in Neff Hall, room 204, MU. We'll still start at 6 p.m. and the building is directly next door to the origional location.

How could you NOT be taken by pianist Justin Kauflin’s presence and poise during the course of the 2014 acclaimed documentary, Keep On Keepin’ On, which the Jazz Series screened last April at Ragtag Cinema. We were so taken, we decided to present the 20-something pianist and his group in concert – as well as have him “host” our Annual Children’s Concert.

We’re pleased he will return in the flesh – and as part of our 2016 Jazz Appreciation Month Celebration. If you missed the film, then you’re in luck. We’ve made arrangements to show it again during Kauflin’s stay and after the fact have him discuss his relationship with Clark Terry, Mulgrew Miller and others. The evening will be capped off by a reception in his honor.

As for Kauflin, the now award-winning pianist lost his eyesight when he was 11. Scholarships allowed him to attend William Paterson University in New Jersey where he'd meet and be taken under the wings of Terry, Miller and a host of other noteworthy jazz artists: Harold Mabern, Wynton Marsalis, Randy Brecker and the late James Williams among them. Through Terry, he met “Q” – Quincy Jones.  Astounded by his ability, Jones included him in a 2013 World Tour with other artists, which landed him in front of huge sold out venues at the Montreux Jazz Festival, in Seoul, Tokyo and Hiroshima.

Kauflin recently released his sophomore recording, Dedication, for Jones’ Qwest label. Not surprisingly he’s receiving a great deal of acclaim. The Jazz Series is pleased to welcome Kauflin and his band mates as they make their first Jazz Series appearance.
